She took everyone by storm with her power-packed performance as the policewoman in ‘Mardaani’, and then took time off for motherhood. Now, actress Rani Mukerji is returning to the big screen with ‘Hichki’, which she says is built on a positive response.

To be directed by Siddharth P Malhotra and produced by Maneesh Sharma under the Yash Raj Films banner, ‘Hichki’ will see Rani in a positive and inspiring story about a woman who turns her biggest weakness into her biggest strength.

Talking about it, Rani said in a statement, “I was looking for a script that would challenge and excite me, and ‘Hichki’ came my way.”

“Each of us has a weakness that pulls us back. It could be a disability or any condition but if we just look at it as simply a hiccup, we can emerge as a winner. It won’t come in the way of achieving our dreams. ‘Hichki’ is built on this positive premise and I decided to take it up,” added the actress, who is married to YRF head honcho Aditya Chopra and has a daughter named Adira with him.

‘Hichki’ will be Sharma’s third film as a producer with YRF after ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ and the forthcoming ‘Meri Pyaari Bindu’.

Malhotra, who has earlier directed ‘We Are Family’, will be making his first film with YRF.

Continuing to gain weight post-pregnancy? Do not put the blame on your pregnancy, but on your lifestyle choices post-delivery, researchers say.

The findings showed that mothers keep the weight on by eating food off their child’s plate or sitting down for longer periods of time.

Further, sleep deprivation — often found in new mothers — increases food cravings and appetite even if they want a healthy diet, leading to weight gain.

“Mothers tend to put the needs of their children first, so they might not be exercising or taking care of themselves,” lead author Olga Yakusheva, Associate Professor at the University of Michigan in the US, was quoted as saying to dailymail.co.uk.

“It might also be little things like finishing the food on their child’s plate or spending more time sitting with their kids reading or watching a movie,” Yakusheva added.

In addition, many women really crank up their diet and exercise for a short time to get back to their pre-pregnancy weight and often get discouraged by the results, leaving exercise all together.

However, if women want to lose the weight, they should cut the calories and work out more as well as take a holistic approach focused on a long-term healthy lifestyle, the researchers suggested.

For the study, the team looked at data for 30,000 women who had given birth between one and four times.

Although all the women gain weight due to their age, there was a sharp difference between those who gave birth and those who did not.

By the time their children were toddler age, mothers who had given birth had put on at least one pound more each year than those who were childless.

Question: I have this best friend I absolutely can’t do without and share everything with her, but now a secret that I have kept from her is bothering me so much that I have lost my sleep over it! I met her boyfriend at a party and we sort of hung out together that night, but unfortunately we ended up in bed and now I don’t know how to break the news to my friend. Though her boyfriend and I haven’t got in touch after that embarrassing night, it’s absolutely killing me. Please tell me how I break this news to my bestie?

Answer by Akanksha Batra: Hi, I appreciate your concern and your courage to share your secret here, but there is no other way to say it that you have made a mistake. As humans we all make mistakes, but it is important to confess it. You have confessed it here. It’s time now to talk about this to your friend as well.

You have now the opportunity to be a friend. Find the best opportunity and tell her the truth gracefully and let her decide after that, to forgive you or not. Maybe later she forgives you, but let that decision be on her.

You will have to meet her alone and confess what happened, that would probably be the end of your relationship but it’s better than living with the guilt all your life. The confession would probably help her get an insight of the relationship she has with her boyfriend too. Something that is much needed for your friend at this point in time.

Please do keep in mind that things wont get okay even after she forgives you, it will take a lot of time for her to trust you, but because of the fear of losing your friendship don’t keep a secret from your friend for life. I hope the confession is not the end of your relationship but if it is, I would suggest you to let your friend be for sometime, don’t run after her to give further explanations, also I would suggest you to join some recreational activities or just keep yourself busy to fill in the void you would be facing after losing your friend.
I hope you gather the courage to tell the truth, all the best!

The Cabinet on Monday approved a proposal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to give formal recognition to the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state by Bangladesh.

The approval came from the regular weekly meeting of the Cabinet held at Bangladesh Secretariat today with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Briefing the reporters after the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said that so far some 113 countries across the globe have given formal recognition to Kosovo and Bangladesh would be the 114th country to do so.

He mentioned that most of the Muslim majority countries have given recognition to Kosovo as some 36 out of 57 OIC countries have so far given recognition to Kosovo.

“For this, the Cabinet has given consent to a proposal to give recognition to Kosovo,” Alam said adding that the major countries like USA, UK and France have already recognized Kosovo.

He also said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would now formally inform Kosovo about the formal recognition by Bangladesh.

Ministers and State Ministers attended the meeting while Secretaries Concerned were present.

Kosovo unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in February 2008, after years of strained relations between its Serb and mainly Albanian inhabitants.

It has been recognised by the United States and major European Union countries, but Serbia, backed by its powerful ally Russia, refuses to do so, and neither do most ethnic Serbs inside Kosovo.

After the break-up of the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s, Serbia responded to separatist pressure from Kosovo by launching a brutal crackdown on the territory’s Albanian population, which was only brought to an end by Nato military intervention in 1999.

Until 2008 the province was administered by the UN. Reconciliation between the majority Albanians, most of whom support independence, and the Serb minority remains elusive.

The High Court on Monday ordered the immediate withdrawal of assistant police super (Bauphal circle) of Patuakhali Saiful Islam over the torture of an accused in police custody.

An HC bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah also asked police to provide security to the family of victim Hafizur Rahman Bijoy, son of Shamsul Haque Khan of Kolta village in Bauphal upazila.

It asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to investigate the incident and submit a report before it on March 19.

Earlier in the day, the ASP and officer-in-charge of Bauphal Police Station Azam Khan Faruki placed their explanations appearing before the court.

The court also exempted the two police officials from personal appearance.

On February 20, the High Court summoned the ASP and the OC to explain the torture of an accused in police custody.

Hearing a petition filed by victim’s mother Jesna Begum, it had also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain as to why any legal action would not be taken against the alleged police officials and why compensation should not be given to the victim.

The Home secretary, IGP and deputy inspector general of police (DIG) of Barisal zone had been asked to respond to the rule.

On February 14, a report headlined ‘Torture in Bauphal OC’s room’ was published in a newspaper.
