Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon on Wednesday said no hawker will be allowed to sit in Gulistan area at daytime on working days.
The DSCC mayor came up with the announcement at Nagar Bhaban while talking to reporters after his meeting with leaders of different hawkers associations.
The authorities concerned will not allow any hawker to sit in Gulistan and its adjoining areas during office hours for ensuring the smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians, he said.
However, the hawkers will be allowed to run their businesses on footpaths after 6:00 pm while at daytime on public holidays, the DSCC mayor said adding that the decision will come into effect on Sunday next.
A list of hawkers, who sit in those areas, has already prepared with their all details and identity cards will be provided to them soon, said the DSCC mayor.
If the hawkers want to change their profession, they will get the necessary support, he added.
