Two people were killed and 16 others were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a container trailer at Joralganj area, in front of BSRM Steel Mills on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Mirsharai upazila on Monday afternoon.
One of the deceased has been identified as Md Asharaf, 42, a passenger of the bus. The bus driver was the second casualty, but his identity could not be ascertained.
Sub-inspector Shafiqul Islam, in-charge of Juralganj Highway Police camp, said the accident took place at the area around 5pm when a Chittagong-bound Prantik Paribahan bus from Dhaka collided head-on with a BSRM Steel Mills-bound container trailer, leaving 18 passengers of the bus injured.
Later locals rescued the injured and sent them to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) and Mirsharai Upazila Health Complex.
Among the injured 8 were sent to CMCH and two of them died on the way to hospital, said CMCH police outpost sub-inspector Abdul Hamid.
